STYLE CRUSH: SANDRA HAGELSTAM, 5 INCH AND UP

If there is one blogger whose style I think is inimitable, I would say it’s Finnish blogger Sandra Hagelstam from ’5 Inch & Up’. I think it was the sudden cool weather we experienced today in the middle of a Melbourne summer that made me think of her, since most of her outfit posts show an incredible, art-like ability to layer and play with proportion and silhouette. Sandra’s look is always effortlessly polished, always complex yet never overdone.

With a flawless wardrobe, which seems to be full of runway-to-reality pieces, the most incredible shoe collection and with a very unique Scandinavian signature I find her blog very inspiring. So many nice coats. So much beautiful blonde hair.

STYLE CRUSH: SUZY BISHOP.

“This is Suzy Bishop. She likes stories with magical powers in them. From time to time, she goes berserk.”

I never thought I’d be doing a “Style Crush” post on a fictional 12-year-old girl, but I guess that was before “Moonrise Kingdom” entered my life and with it, the charming Suzy Bishop who inhabits a whimsical world of dreams, fantasy and young love – all set to a highly stylised 1960s backdrop that could only be conjured up by the imagination of Wes Anderson.

Awkwardly adorable, Suzy’s penchant for terrible blue eyeshadow, Francoise Hardy records, short skirts and knee high socks is more than charming, as are the two possessions she is never seen without; her binoculars and her kitten.

I’ve never coveted the wardrobe of a 12-year-old so much before. All those gorgeous shades of tangerine and lemon, perfect A-line frocks, oversized peter pan collars and cuffs – it’s a vintage heaven. It’s also one of my new favourite films – it reminded me of what it would be like to watch a children’s story book in motion – and it’s absolutely guaranteed to steal your heart away.

STYLE CRUSH: MELANIE HUYNH.

Ah French girls. You know the look. The one that’s pretty much 98% impossible to nail without actually hailing from France, having a ridiculously attractive accent and having grown up surrounded by the home of beautiful art, cinema and couture fashion. You know the look I’m talking about. Unbelievably silky long hair, what appears to be not a single hint of make-up, classic lines, clean silhouettes and of course, a tres magnifique designer handbag on arm.. ring any bells…*cough* Charlotte Gainsbourg? Carine Roitfeld?

Stylist and editor Melanie Huynh epitomises this perfect Parisien look so it’s no wonder she is a favourite for the style snappers – and for me personally. Elegant, elevated, timeless, never OTT – I am seriously in swoonsville.

APPLES.

Hmmm.. as this blog is supposed to be a personal and honest reflection of who I am, I’m not going to lie. This has been the hardest week of my life. I have discovered that love is when you openly give somebody else the power to turn your whole world upside down. This can be for both good and bad. I was fortunate enough to experience three incredible years of the good (possibly the best) and am now experiencing the devastating flip side of the coin. It is, to be perfectly frank, soul destroying.

However with much to look forward to on the horizon, I felt compelled to share these stunning images of Apple’s (denim wear designer at ksubi) dreamy, globally-inspired home in Bondi. Magical.
